AI skin analysis: what it sees in a photo, and what it cannot

AI skin analysis reads what shows on your face in one clear photo: texture, tone, pores, shine, and visible spots and marks, and it scores them in about a minute. But it reads the surface and it is not a medical diagnosis: it cannot name diseases, it depends on the light, and it cannot know what your skin went through this week — that is the work of a team that follows up every day.

What does AI skin analysis read from a photo?

It sees what the camera sees, in order and with scores: what stands out most on your skin, what is milder, and where it sits. This is what it reads:

Is AI skin analysis accurate?

It is as accurate as the photo. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) says lighting is what shows the colour and texture of skin as they really are: bright natural light from a window, the light in front of you and not behind you, a plain background, and no make-up.

Yellow light shifts the colour, shadow hides texture, and a filter wipes out the pores, so one face can give two readings from two photos. Use the same window at roughly the same time of day, and the comparison after a month is fair.

What can the analysis not do?

It does not identify diseases, does not write medicine, and does not judge moles. The AAD warns against apps that claim to detect skin diseases or assess moles from a photo — the SOLEMOSA analysis makes no such claim.

Some things never show in a photo: what you use right now, how often you wash your face, whether you are breastfeeding, whether the sun reaches you through the car window every day. These are often the causes; the photo only sees the result.

If you have deep painful spots, or something that grows, bleeds or changes suddenly, it belongs with a doctor, not with any app.

Why do I need a team to follow up after the analysis?

Because skin changes from week to week: your cycle, the weather, sleep, stress, a new product. The AAD says any new step for spots needs weeks, about 4 to 6, before its effect shows, and that switching products all the time irritates the skin instead of calming it.

The analysis gives the starting point; the steps need adjusting on the way: easing off a step that left your face tight, keeping one that calmed things, staying with a product instead of replacing it.

How does the analysis work at SOLEMOSA?

You take one photo on your phone, in the browser with nothing to download, and the AI analysis reads it in about a minute: your reading, your score, and a morning and evening routine with its steps in order.

Then Amina, the skincare expert on the team, writes to you every day and adjusts your steps. After a month, a new photo is compared with your starting point.

Your photo is analysed and never stored. Only your reading and its scores are kept, for the comparison.

How our model was built

AI trained on skin analysis to dermatologists' guidance (AAD and NHS): it reads your skin's texture, tone, pores and breakouts from one photo in a minute, and Amina's team reviews your plan every day.

SOLEMOSA's analysis runs on an AI model trained on skin analysis and skin care, reading images and text. We did not leave it to answer on its own: we gave it our own skin-care instruction set, covering what to read in a photo, the order of the steps, and the words it must never use.

That instruction set is grounded in the everyday skin-care guidance of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) and the UK's NHS.

Every reading comes from one photo or from three questions about your skin.

Amina and her team then review and adjust your steps every day.

The analysis does not diagnose and does not replace a doctor.

Quick questions

Is AI skin analysis accurate?

It is accurate at reading what shows in the photo when the photo is clear: natural light in front of you, no make-up and no filter. It is trained on skin analysis and skin care, guided by AAD and NHS guidance. But it reads the surface; it is not a medical diagnosis.

How do I analyse my skin from a photo?

Take one photo facing a window, with no make-up and no filter. The AI analysis reads it in about a minute and gives you your reading and your routine in order.

Does the app replace a doctor?

No, and it does not try to. It is daily cosmetic skincare, not a medical diagnosis: it does not identify diseases or write medicine, and never touches medicine from your doctor. The analysis reads your skin; Amina and her team adjust your care every day.

Your plan, not a general one

Everything above is general guidance from the sources. What suits your skin, in which order and how often is what Amina arranges once she has read your skin — and she follows you on it every day.
