Skin analysis from a photo: how it works and why it matters
Skin analysis from a photo at SOLEMOSA means Amina reads your skin from one clear photo or from 3 questions, and arranges your plan: what we start with, how often, and when we measure. The difference is that your plan is built on your skin, not on a general description, and your starting point is saved so that after a month you see what changed by comparison, not from memory.
Who is Amina?
Amina is the skincare expert on the team. She writes to you every day and adjusts your steps. She reads your skin, arranges your plan, follows you on it day by day inside the app, and answers you there.
What does Amina see in a photo?
What shows in the photo: texture, tone, pores and lines. Your reading comes from that: what stands out most, what we start with first, and what can wait.
The reading is cosmetic skincare, not a medical diagnosis. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) warns against apps that claim to identify skin diseases — Amina does not diagnose, and never touches medicine your doctor has given you.
How do I take the photo so the reading is accurate?
The AAD has clear advice for photographing skin, and it is the same advice that makes your reading more accurate:
- Remove make-up before the photo with a gentle cleanser and cool or lukewarm water — hot water and fragrance can redden the skin and hide what we need to see.
- Bright natural light, ideally through a window on a sunny day.
- The light in front of you, not behind you.
- A plain, single-colour background, with no people or objects behind you.
- One clear photo, with no filter.
Why is a photo more accurate than describing my skin in words?
Because words describe, but they cannot see. «I have marks» could mean brown marks or pink ones, and each follows a different path. «My pores are large» could mean clogged pores or pores that only stand out because of irritation. These differences show in a photo and not in a description.
The AAD itself says good skin photos help you see how a concern is changing and how well your care is working. That is exactly the role of the starting point: after a month, we compare against it.
What happens after the analysis?
You get your morning and evening plan with its steps in order, and Amina writes to you every day inside the app and adjusts with you as soon as something changes. And before you buy any product, «Photograph your product»: a photo or the product's name tells you whether it suits your skin.
Every week you know where you stand: what has calmed, what still needs time, and what the next step is — instead of guessing from the mirror. And if the products you already own suit your skin, Amina tells you to keep using them.
How often do I need a new analysis?
The first analysis is your starting point. The comparison comes after about a month, because most changes in the skin — spots, texture, dark marks — take weeks to show.
To keep the comparison fair, take the photo in the same conditions: the same window, roughly the same time of day, and no make-up. The AAD says good lighting is what shows colour and texture as they really are, and different light changes how they look in a photo.
What does the analysis not do?
It does not identify diseases, does not write medicine, and does not change anything your doctor has given you. Its job is to read what shows on your skin and arrange your daily care.
If something needs a doctor — deep painful spots, a sudden change, or something that grows or bleeds — it belongs with a doctor, not with any app.
Is my photo stored?
Your photo is analysed and never stored. What is kept is your reading and its scores, so we can compare against them after a month.
Quick questions

Is my photo stored after the analysis?
No. Your photo is analysed and never stored.
Your plan, not a general one
Everything above is general guidance from the sources. What suits your skin, in which order and how often is what Amina arranges once she has read your skin — and she follows you on it every day.
